From time to time astronomical instruments appear in movies, although usually somewhere in the background, inconspicuous and most times easily missed. They build character and add mystery to the film.
We decided to look for those interesting "movie characters". The beginning of our search is very promising.

The Name of the Rose
In the movie you can see at least three astronomical instruments. In one of the scenes William of Baskerville (Sean Connery) unpacks his bag and takes out the islamic astrolabe and astronomical quadrant. Later, talking with his apprentice he uses the astrolabe.

The easiest to find in this movie is an armillary sphere. You can see it in the scene when Anderton is talking to Lamar. But that's not the only surprise. Later I managed to spot a ring dial. And who knows - maybe it's not the last astronomical instrument in the movie.
